The robot was developed by scientists at the University of Birmingham. The robot took five years to develop at a cost of £350,000. It has sensors on its face and wrists and takes 10 seconds to calculate up to 1000 possible ways to grasp a new object with its 5 robotic fingers. It then plans its movements to reach its target and avoid obstacles. In other words, the robot is designed to learn how to pick up things. Robots like this have ways to go before we have them in our homes, but the future is bright.
